GOAT microtransit program rolls out in Rancho Cucamonga with strong early demand

The city heard a presentation March 4 on GOAT, the Greater Ontario Area Transportation microtransit program connecting Ontario International Airport, Victoria Gardens, Ontario Mills, the Rancho Cucamonga Metro Station and event venues.
Ray Roa, chief operating officer for the Greater Ontario Convention & Visitors Bureau (GoCal), told the council the service was made possible by a federal transportation grant secured by Congresswoman Norma Torres and designed to improve connectivity for visitors and residents. The service runs seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and includes wheelchair‑accessible vehicles and a booking app and phone line.
Roa cited early performance figures: between Jan. 16 and Jan. 30 the system logged more than 2,200 ride requests, a 92% demand‑met rate and about 900 new rider accounts; in February requests rose to more than 4,400 with a roughly 90% demand‑met rate and more than 1,400 new accounts. Average rider ratings were 4.9 stars, with a high share of five‑star reviews.
Roa described GOAT as a flexible mobility solution to strengthen connections among retail, employment, entertainment and transportation hubs and said GoCal and partners will continue to monitor performance and seek rider feedback.
