125-foot monopole proposed near Route 29 to improve coverage; no public objections recorded

Towers LLC and Madison Wood Preservers presented a request at the Jan. 21 workshop for a special-use permit to construct a 125-foot monopole on frontage property near Route 29.
Attorney Lori Schweller, representing Towers LLC, said the proposed tower would improve wireless voice, data and internet service for the Town of Madison and the Route 29 corridor. She said the site is 1.782 acres in R-1 zoning, abuts industrial property, would keep most of the parcel wooded with a small screened compound, meet required setbacks and be constructed without lighting or reflective surfaces. A balloon test performed Jan. 8 indicated minimal visual impact because of tree cover.
Staff reported the application had completed required preliminary ordinance reviews and that the submitted site plan is largely complete. The commission took no public comment on the application and did not vote; the item remains in the review pipeline for a future public hearing and site-plan review where VDOT and other technical reviews will be considered.
