New fairgrounds event brings visitors but preliminary accounting shows modest shortfall
Summary
A new arena event at the Curry County Fairgrounds attracted visitors and $22,000 in ticket sales; managers reported strong local hotel and restaurant activity but preliminary bookkeeping shows the event may be about $10,000 in the red before sponsorships and final costs are tallied.

Interim Fairgrounds Manager Natasha said recent capital and infrastructure upgrades to the arena enabled a marquee event that sold about $22,000 in tickets. She told commissioners the county likely remains "in the red" on that event after initial expense estimates, but stressed the event generated substantial hotel and restaurant activity in Gold Beach and surrounding communities.
Natasha and commissioners discussed plans to improve future margins: tiered ticket pricing, more online sales with lower transaction fees, and pursuing additional sponsorships that saw value in the arena exposure this year. She also described a staffing arrangement that shares a 0.5 maintenance position between the fairgrounds and county maintenance to provide oversight and daily upkeep.
Commissioners and staff said they consider the broader economic benefit when evaluating event costs; one commissioner noted a $10,000 shortfall that nevertheless produced hundreds of thousands of dollars in local economic activity. Natasha said organizers will refine ticketing and sponsorship models and provide a final accounting after expenses are reconciled.
What’s next: staff will finalize the event’s expense report, pursue sponsorships and consider ticketing structure changes to improve net revenue for future events.
