Schools foundation presents Lockheed Martin-funded STEM grant; Huntsville teacher recognized

Jeannie Greer, representing the schools foundation, presented a check Dec. 16 to Huntsville City Schools to support the district’s middle-school STEM program, specifically to purchase robotics kits.
"These hands on tools are such a powerful way to to build problem solving skills, teamwork, and confidence, and they help students see themselves in the future workforce right here in Huntsville," Greer said. She thanked Lockheed Martin for making the grant possible and noted that Jamin Brown, Lockheed Martin’s vice president of missile defense programs, was present at the meeting.
Greer said she is working with district staff (Mr. Buckner, Rachel Evans and Bonnie Garrett) on a broader STEM initiative to expand opportunities across the district and thanked Holly McCarty for her support. She also announced two upcoming foundation events: the Golden Apple Gala on Jan. 28 at the Saturn Ballroom (Von Braun Center) to honor teachers of the year, and a Ron Clark event on Feb. 25 that the foundation will host for educators.
Earlier in the meeting the board also spotlighted Tamarian Kelly (referred to as Miss Kelly) of Columbia High School, noting she was one of only four teachers statewide selected by the Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics for the ACTM High School 2025 Teacher of the Year distinction.
