The Huntsville City Schools board moved through routine business at its Jan. 13 work session, approving the superintendent's human-resources report and a professional-service agreement report and receiving an interim financial presentation covering October and November.
Interim finance lead Eric Haines, filling in for the chief school financial officer, reviewed the district's October and November statements and reported an ending fund balance of $179,920,422, which he said represents roughly six months of operating reserves. Haines noted revenue timing differences for November (revenues reported at about 15.85% and expenditures at about 13.62% of annual projections) and told the board those variances reflect timing rather than structural shortfalls.
On motions, the superintendent recommended approval of the human-resources report; a board member moved, the chair called the vote, at least one member verbally recorded "Aye" and the chair voted aye, and the motion passed. Later the superintendent recommended approval of the professional-service agreement report; it was moved and seconded, another member said "Aye," the chair voted aye, and the motion passed.
During the meeting Lee High School principal Mr. Rain introduced Navendra Woods as the new head football coach and invited the family to stand for recognition.
There were no contested votes or amendments recorded in the transcript for these items, and the meeting adjourned after the approvals. The board did not take further action on the financial report beyond the informational presentation.
