Board approves new social studies sequence for 2026–27 school year

Board members asked clarifying questions about how the shift would affect students already enrolled; Heather and committee members said students who would be affected have planned accommodations and options, including elective coursework in high school. The committee’s recommendation was presented as a committee motion and the board approved it by voice vote, seven to nothing.
The board did not alter graduation requirements or adopt additional mandates at the meeting; the change is a progression reordering with administrative steps to embed content and notify families. The curriculum committee will bring any related handbook updates to a future meeting for formal inclusion in student materials.
