The authority described a roughly $13,000,000 total project to invest in the North Shore Railroad — including four miles of rail replacement within Northumberland County — with the authority proposing a local match of about $4,000,000. The representative asked the county to provide a letter of support by June 5 and offered to meet separately with commissioners to explain project scope and documentation.
Commissioners responded that staff are reviewing materials and that they prefer to hear details in a work session before signing a letter. “We don't know the whole story,” one commissioner said, inviting the rail authority to present at an upcoming work session and noting that county staff had scheduled follow-up meetings with the authority.
No vote was taken; the board asked staff to continue reviewing project documentation and suggested the authority provide more detailed information for a later decision about a letter of support.
