The board honored student and staff achievements early in the meeting. Coaches and students from the Tacumpsy Middle School 'You Be the Solution' team were introduced and recognized for winning first place at the competition; the coaches noted that the winning students answered advanced chemistry questions and will submit a video portion to state and national competition rounds.
"They were just blowing us away this year with how much they got into it," one coach said of the students' grasp of topics such as electron configuration and stoichiometry.
Later, Miss Carrie Barton, who was named a Region 8 regional teacher of the year nominee by the Michigan Department of Education, described her professional-development presentation on community involvement and said she hopes to advocate for Tecumseh Public Schools if selected as the state teacher of the year.
Board members thanked the students, coaches and staff, invited parents to take photos with the team, and encouraged the community to attend upcoming athletic and music performances.
