Commission approves county participation in state wildfire cooperative agreements and performance reviews

Beaver County commissioners voted on March 17 to accept a cooperative wildfire agreement with the state division of forestry, fire and state lands and to proceed with obligations tied to the county's Cooperative Wildfire Suppression (CWS) program.
Officials said the agreements formalize the county's participation in quarterly performance reviews of wardens and in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) update process. County staff explained the need to identify a county contact to participate in quarterly performance‑management meetings and to sign the cooperative paperwork.
"The main thing is identifying that one contact for performance," said George, the newly introduced southwest area fire management officer, describing the role the county should fill. Commissioners discussed which commissioner or staff member would serve and asked staff to supply a formal sign‑up.
The commission also reviewed program dollars and matching requirements tied to the CWS program; one line item discussed during the meeting mentioned roughly $9,000 in a county commitment during the cooperative discussion. Commissioners approved the county fire agreement and the related cooperative agreement by voice vote, recorded as unanimous.
Staff will coordinate next steps with state partners, confirm the county contact for performance reviews, and bring finalized signature pages back to the commission.
