Northwest ISD spotlights CTE growth: 62 students earn associate degrees; district wins CTE District of Distinction

Henderson told the board the district received the CTE District of Distinction Award for leadership, financial stewardship and program innovation. She said 62 students from Steel Early College High School and other campuses will graduate with associate degrees through dual-credit agreements with Tarrant County College, up from 35 last year.
Henderson outlined program metrics and achievements: 720 practicum interns districtwide; three Alliance Texas student influencers who received $5,000 scholarships from Hillwood and AllianceTexas; increases in National Technical Honor Society membership (374 seniors, up from 314); career prep and internship participation exceeding 350 students; culinary, biomedical, aviation and cosmetology academies earning certifications and competition awards; and planned initiatives including a May 18 career expo at the McCrae Center to connect students with area employers.
Specific program highlights cited by Henderson included: a Sunny Nance Stock Show that raised over $20,000 for scholarships; 100% IBC attainment in the culinary academy; 100% pass rates on FAA private pilot written exams and on commercial-drone FAA Part 107 testing for aviation students; and national recognition for the district's media production program (a Lone Star Regional Emmy Award). Henderson also described partnerships with local businesses and colleges (including Lockheed Martin, Bell and Dallas-area industry partners) for internships and curriculum support.
Henderson closed by inviting board members to attend upcoming CTE events and the district’s first career expo on May 18.
Her presentation emphasized how expanded internships, certifications and dual-credit opportunities are providing students with industry credentials and college credit prior to graduation.
