Napa County highlights wildfire resilience work, cites $3.5 million agreement with Firewise foundation

Chief Executive Officer Ryan Alsop said the Board approved a $3.5 million agreement with the Napa Community Firewise Foundation in July 2025 to “bolster fire prevention, resiliency, and preparedness efforts” around high‑risk communities. County work last year included removal of thousands of cubic yards of hazardous vegetation, construction of miles of fuel breaks and fire lines, and more than 5,400 defensible‑space inspections around homes vulnerable to wildfire.
Alsop cited the Pickett wildfire near Calistoga in late August, saying areas where prior resiliency work had been completed gave firefighters an advantage in slowing the fire’s spread; the transcript states the fire affected agricultural operations but resulted in no injuries or fatalities. Alsop also noted that residents organized local resiliency projects and that Napa County now has 23 local Fire Safe Councils, 20 of which have a Firewise USA designation.
The county message emphasized ongoing partnership with state and local fire agencies and community organizations as part of continued mitigation and preparedness.
