Leavenworth County commissioners approved a bundle of consent items on April 1, 2026, including an appointment to an area advisory council, a $10,000 Edward J. Burn Memorial grant for the sheriff's office, authorization to sign an MOU with CoreCivic related to EMS collections at a CoreCivic facility, and conditional approval of a final subdivision plat.
The commission voted to appoint Lisa Maxon to the Leavenworth areawide advisory council; staff presented Maxon's background in nursing and organizational leadership as qualifications for the vacancy. The vote was moved, seconded and carried.
The sheriff's office sought signature on the Edward J. Burn Memorial grant agreement for $10,000, intended for technology upgrades. The sheriff's representative explained the county's ongoing practice of pursuing grant funding to offset local costs; commissioners approved the agreement.
Staff presented an MOU with CoreCivic clarifying that CoreCivic will guarantee payment to the county if detainees at the facility lack insurance for EMS calls. Commissioners asked about collection mechanics and tax status; staff explained CoreCivic will guarantee payment under the agreement and the county will pursue standard collection processes when applicable. The commission authorized the chairman to sign the MOU.
Finally, the commission conditionally accepted the final plat for the Reserve at Lake Farms (DEV260002), an eight‑lot private‑drive subdivision at 14971 Fairmont Road, following staff discussion of planning commission approvals and the exceptions granted at the planning level. The commission approved the conditional final plat as recommended by staff and the planning commission.
Each item was seconded and approved during the meeting; the commission verbally recorded votes for the motions.
