The King William County School Board on Monday reviewed results from a community survey used to guide its superintendent search and agreed to post a job listing later this week.
Miss Mills, who presented the update, said the Virginia General Assembly session "did end on Saturday, March 14th, with no approved budget. They will reconvene on April 22nd for budget deliberations," and reported the division received 505 survey responses, 398 of which were completed. "I feel like... 505 responses is pretty strong," Mills said, characterizing the level of participation as notable for the division.
Board members said the survey showed strong alignment across stakeholder groups. Communication, visibility and trustworthiness ranked high among desired superintendent qualities; key priorities named in the survey included student achievement, staff support and retention, school safety and well-being, communication and operational effectiveness. Several members highlighted an interest in expanding career and technical education (CTE).
Board members discussed posting logistics. The board’s timeline calls for a draft job posting to be emailed to members the next day and the posting to go live on Friday. Staff asked board members to send suggested edits to Tina or Amber by the close of business on Thursday so changes can be incorporated before the posting.
The board also discussed scheduling possible additional work sessions in April, noting the division needs a minimum three-day public notice for such meetings. The division’s regular school board meeting is scheduled for April 21 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.
The board received a brief state- and county-budget update during the same item: county staff presented projected revenues March 9, and Miss McBride said the county is close to a split-levy reconciliation pending two clarifying calculations.
No public hearings were held on the item; the board moved on after completing the posting timeline and communications plan.
