Community speakers praise Rio Hondo College Math Academy; board hears summer outcomes

Padilla described program features he said contributed to outcomes: the college hires teachers and pays above-district rates, purchases curriculum, runs programming on local campuses Monday–Friday (8 a.m.–2 p.m.), and hires local high-school students as paid tutors. He thanked Rio Hondo College leaders and named Dean of Students Yolanda Emerson for the college’s investment.
Other speakers during public comment highlighted related assessment data and called for continued district focus on math vertical alignment with feeder districts and postsecondary partners. The board received the comments; no action was taken during the meeting.
