Matt, the project lead, walked council members through plans for the lower level and a reconfigured council chamber, saying the scope focuses on new stairs, an expanded lobby and flexible office and conference spaces. "We have a preliminary cost estimate from the DCI group of roughly about 1.7 million for construction of the full renovation of this space," Matt said, adding that an all‑in project estimate including furniture, design and contingencies is about $2.2 million.
Why it matters: Phase two completes work begun in phase one and is intended to relocate several administrative functions, provide an accessible public reception, and free up central conference rooms for shared use. Staff said furniture choices will favor mobile, sit/stand options to provide flexibility and reduce permanently mounted fixtures.
Schedule and procurement
Staff said punch‑list work on phase one is wrapping up, furniture installation for phase one is scheduled for the week of July 21, and staff move‑in for phase one is expected in early August. If bidding and procurement proceed on the anticipated schedule, staff expects to advertise the phase‑two bid package within the next three weeks, receive bids in August and start construction in late September.
Council questions focused on space flexibility and cost breakdowns. Staff agreed to provide phase‑one final costs when available and to clarify the furniture and contingency line items prior to the public hearing.
Next step: The council set the public hearing by resolution (vote 5‑0) and staff will return with the formal bid package and any adjustments after stakeholder comments and further review.
