The Clive City Council on Oct. 9 approved an updated Walnut Creek Watershed plan that staff said modernizes the 2016 plan and adds clearer metrics to track member jurisdictions’ contributions to flood mitigation, water-quality improvements and habitat restoration. The resolution passed 5–0.
Pete summarized the plan’s priorities — hold water on the landscape, preserve and reconnect floodplains, improve surface-water quality, and sustain implementation through monitoring and reporting — and said staff believes the metrics are ambitious but attainable in coordination with Polk County and watershed partners. Council Member Susan, who serves as current chair of the watershed management authority, urged support and invited colleagues to the authority’s next meeting at City Hall on Oct. 20.
Why it matters: the updated plan creates a framework for multi-jurisdictional work on flood risk, water quality and monitoring, and it adds performance metrics so member communities can be held to implementation milestones.
