Hanover approves adding Pembroke to South Shore Vocational district; small enrollment change expected

Town Meeting approved an amendment to the South Shore Regional Vocational Technical School District agreement to add Pembroke as a member. Hanover representatives said the change will slightly reduce Hanover's allotment of Vo‑Tech seats—roughly one student the first year and one to three in later years—until a new school expands capacity.
A motion to accept Article 39 passed unanimously after petitioners explained the amendment will add Pembroke to the South Shore Regional Vocational Technical School District. A Committee representative said adding Pembroke will decrease Hanover’s share of enrollments and its financial obligation.
Bob Hayward, Hanover’s representative to the school board at South Shore Vo‑Tech, estimated Hanover would lose approximately one student in the first year and one to three students annually thereafter until the district opens a larger school designed for roughly 900 students (Hanover currently sends about 700). He said uneven fill rates among member towns (Norwell and Cohasset under‑fill their allotments) may allow Hanover to pull back spots in some years.
The Advisory Committee recommended approval; Town Meeting approved the amendment by voice vote.
