Local artist Adam Smith outlines downtown waterfront mural plan, council requests mockup and contract

Local artist Adam Smith presented a concept for a downtown mural facing the water and discussed scope, materials and timing with the Port Orchard City Council.

Smith said the initial idea began from an AI mockup showing a boat at sunset and that the final work would be a locally grounded impressionistic scene. "Based on the concept art, I think I can get that done in about 60 to 80 hours of work," Smith told the council, adding that the work requires surface primer, weather‑appropriate paint, and a clear sealant to protect against sun, moisture and graffiti.

Council members asked about moisture mitigation for a concrete wall that backs to soil and about durability; Smith referenced a nearby mural he has followed and said the combination of primer, paint designed for exterior use, and commercial sealants should provide long life. Several council members suggested local features — seagulls, the Olympic Mountains and shipyard cranes — be included and asked Smith to prepare a precise mockup and measurements to inform a formal contract.
