Committee reviews city fleet inventory and early plans for a detailed fleet book

Staff provided a high-level overview of the city’s ENR (fleet) as background for the 2027–28 budget. Noah Crocker said the fleet inventory projects roughly 97 vehicles and pieces of equipment at the end of 2026, including about 28 specialty items such as large dump trucks, a bucket truck, vac trucks and other costly pieces of equipment.
Crocker said departments use a mix of replacement triggers—years owned, miles and hours of operation—to decide when to surplus or replace equipment, and that some vehicles with high age may nonetheless remain in service if mechanical inspection shows acceptable condition. He noted the public-works fleet includes 11 EVs (roughly 20% of that department’s vehicles) and that DCD/community development had a small EV fleet (five EVs).
Staff previewed a forthcoming fleet book that will include purchase dates, pictures, department assignments and planned replacement years. Committee members asked staff to add purchase dates and mileage/hours to the book and to return with additional metrics that would help prioritize replacements during budget deliberations.
No formal action was taken; staff will circulate the draft fleet book and continue to develop the replacement plan and asset-tracking metrics for future committee review.
