Sheriff describes major response after missing-child search and investigates reported attempted abduction

P County Sheriff Schneider briefed Grimes City Council on March 24 with a monthly activity summary and updates on recent incidents.
Schneider reported 1,081 events between Feb. 23 and Mar. 23 across a range of call types — including motor vehicle crashes, medical calls, building checks and traffic stops — and said the department deployed more than 50 officers to search for a missing 5-year-old. He described the creation of a command post at a local site and said detectives have a lead in what had been reported on social media as an attempted abduction; investigators planned a follow-up interview the night of the meeting and Schneider said he expected a resolution soon.
Council thanked the sheriff for the department’s response; Schneider noted the city’s Citizens Academy event later that night and left to attend.
