City staff told residents Green Belt Landing will begin partial openings this summer with a soft launch in May for portions of the Creekside Pavilion and a larger ribbon-cutting at the Clyde Festival in July. "The Creek Side Pavilion is nearly principally done and we'll actually start having rentals in May," Matt Mcen, the city manager, said during the presentation.
Officials said the project includes the Ashley Oakland playground (described as an all-inclusive playground), a new platform stage for festival programming and a major public-art installation by an artist from Toronto called "Aquatic Dance." Staff thanked private donors and said state and federal grants also contributed to the project budget. Council and staff described the playground as one of the largest all-inclusive play areas in the metro region.
On parking related to the Green Belt Landing site, staff said the lot has been expanded east toward the Creekside Pavilion, includes a new turnaround and closer parking for renters, retains overflow parking and will receive electric-vehicle charging stations in the future. Officials said the reconfigured entry and circulation will improve traffic flow at events.
Staff asked residents to expect staged openings: a soft opening for some facilities in May and a larger grand opening tied to the Clyde Festival in July; several timelines depend on finishing work and third-party schedules. No formal votes were taken; staff will return with operational details and rental availability as those portions of the site open.
