The Historic Preservation Commission selected 600 Avenue C (a 1932 single‑family dwelling) as the recipient of the 2026 Historic Preservation Award, and confirmed the schedule for Historic Preservation Day set for May 9.
Commissioners reviewed seven nominations and applied established criteria—completeness of the application, historic significance, conformance with Secretary of the Interior standards, and promotion of long‑term preservation. After deliberation about prior award winners and which projects demonstrated active preservation or rehabilitation work, the commission unanimously moved to award 600 Avenue C.
Staff outlined Preservation Day logistics: a 9:00 a.m. kickoff at Paro Financial (award presentation and building tour), a 10:00 a.m. open house and dedication at the historic water filtration plant (including a dedication to the late Alan Stroberg), and an 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. presentation at Bulock Field to view the airport hangar with aviation‑themed children’s activities. The commission discussed outreach (handout maps, electronic message‑board promotion and a possible donated banner), a modest event budget (~$300) and volunteer support for children’s activities.
Staff will contact the winning property owner to invite attendance at Preservation Day; if the owner declines, the commission will report back.
