Anson County approves airport taxiway and ramp design work using grant matches already budgeted

Edwards said Michael Baker Engineering is completing design work and the county can use non-primary entitlement grant funds and airport improvement (Biden infrastructure) grants to advance construction oversight and inspection.
Edwards described the financing plan: the additional taxiway design work carries a small local match (about $3,400) that is already budgeted to the airport; a separate ramp design phase is estimated at roughly $23,000 with a local match of about $10,150, also budgeted. Edwards said the state recommended using the county’s AIP (airport improvement) funds to pay for construction administration so the state could provide construction dollars for the project’s remaining costs.
Commissioner Gatewood moved to approve both projects; the board voted to approve the recommended design work and authorized the county manager to sign grant work authorizations and accept associated grants. Edwards said recent activity at the airport (increased fuel sales and visiting business jets) supports continuing repairs and modest expansion of services.
What’s next: Staff will return with construction budgets and any required grant documents as design phases reach completion. Local matches are in the airport budget and the board authorized moving forward with the grant work authorizations.
