The Monongalia County Board of Education voted on multiple formal actions at the March 24 meeting, approving waivers, contracts, personnel lists and two student expulsions.
Superintendent Dr. Campbell recommended and the board approved Local School Improvement Council (LSIC) waivers to provide an ALAC cart for Morgantown High School and University High School; both waivers will be forwarded to the West Virginia Department of Education and State Board for review.
The board also approved the Frontline master services agreement and an auditorium stormwater agreement with engineering firm Thrasher (a fixed fee of $34,550 was discussed during the Thrasher presentation). Administration said Thrasher representatives were present to answer questions about scope and cost.
On student discipline, the superintendent recommended two 365‑day expulsions under the Safe Schools Act — one for possession of a controlled substance (second offense) and one for distribution of a controlled substance. The motions were seconded, both parents waived hearings, and the expulsions carried.
Under procurement and expenditures, the board approved Accounts Payable Addendum A after a board member recused themself for a business relationship with a vendor. The board separated Item A (expenditures exceeding $3,000) from the consent agenda for discussion and then approved it; significant items discussed included a fixed-fee professional-development speaker, a used vehicle purchase of $25,638 for driver education to be shared by Morgantown High and University High, and a purchase of network switches and supplies for 10 elementary schools (board members asked for a detailed list of those items). The board asked administration to provide additional detail on the switches and quantities.
All motions described at the meeting were carried unless otherwise noted. Where vote tallies were not read into the record, the minutes show the motions carried; the board did not provide roll-call tallies in the public oral record for every motion.
