Monongalia County Board of Education honors state wrestling champions and ProStart winners

The Monongalia County Board of Education opened its March 24 meeting by honoring student achievements across athletics and culinary arts. Coach Meiselle accepted a plaque for the University High School wrestling team after the board noted the program’s third straight division title and the school’s fourth state wrestling championship overall. “Well, just thank you for the board for this. It’s very nice,” Coach Meiselle said, accepting the recognition.
Board members also recognized Mon County Technical Education Center students and Chef Brian Kovville for sweeping the West Virginia ProStart Invitational, winning both culinary and restaurant-management competitions and the Hospitality Cup. The board said winners will advance to the National ProStart Invitational in Baltimore in April and that the students earned more than $230,000 in scholarships and tuition waivers to West Virginia North Community College.
Superintendent Dr. Campbell and board members praised the sustained student work and staff support required for both programs, and invited the students, coaches and instructors to remain for photographs. There were no formal actions tied to the recognitions; the board then moved on to the regular agenda.
