Concerns centered on a lack of detailed scope (specific plants, quantities and precise work locations), the presence of hydrangeas in the concept images and their watering needs, and whether the high cost reflected construction (brick/concrete) rather than plantings. Trustees noted that hydrangeas may require frequent watering and that the village’s small public‑works crew could struggle to maintain widespread, water-intensive plantings.
Board members asked staff to obtain a more detailed scope of work, clarify whether hardscape items are included, and solicit competing bids or proposals from commercial landscape firms. A motion to table the proposal passed by roll call.
Staff said they will return with a more specific contract scope and additional bids so trustees can compare options before awarding work.
