Board approves K–5 literacy purchase, Cardinal Point security contract and an exchange-student placement

The Upper Perkiomen School Board voted to approve action items A–G as a single motion at the workshop. The omnibus motion covered purchasing a magnetic literacy K–5 resource for 2026–27, a three-year contract with Cardinal Point for security services, adoption of the district comprehensive school counseling plan, a confidential student settlement, placement of an international exchange student from Italy, revised curriculum documents and staff compensation plans.

Solicitor announcements and roll call preceded the votes; board members moved, seconded and approved the minutes, personnel report and the full action agenda. Following roll call earlier in the meeting, nine directors were recorded present and the omnibus action carried with the board voice vote.

During the financial report, the business office presented February operating reports and a general fund payment list totaling $2,744,625.26 and noted a liability-insurance dividend of $18,462. The finance committee said a small additional cost ($8,800) for ELA and math programs would be added to the next budget.

Public comment included remarks from Joanna Basta, host parent to exchange student Ricardo, who thanked Dr. Fina, the board and school staff for approving Ricardo midyear and announced she will host another student next year. Ricardo addressed the board briefly to thank them for the welcome, and Jessica Figolini, area representative for International Student Exchange, thanked the board for the midyear approval and encouraged further outreach to recruit host families and additional student placements.

The board approved the financials and adjourned following final reminders of upcoming community events.
