The Garfield Heights City School District board on March 16 approved routine business including a tax-rate certification for tax year 2027 and adopted Resolution 2026-14 proclaiming March 2026 as Music in Our Schools Month.
Treasurer's report: the district's treasurer summarized three items: the regular financial report, a tax-rate resolution for tax year 2027 (for levied taxes outside the 10-mill limitation) prepared on a 92% collection basis, and an appropriation amendment required for county filing. The treasurer noted a significant drop in certain expenditures compared to last year and stated the district is no longer in fiscal precaution.
Votes and actions: the board moved and approved the agenda, minutes and multiple consent and personnel items by roll call. On the classified personnel item (12.1) the roll call shows Miss Cox recorded an abstention while other listed members voted in favor; other motions recorded unanimous yes votes from Miss Morrison, Mrs. Irvin Doer, Miss Cox (except the abstention), and Miss Thomas.
Music resolution: Board members read and adopted Resolution 2026-14, citing the National Association for Music Education and the Every Student Succeeds Act in support of recognizing music education. The resolution was moved and seconded and passed by roll call.
Postponed item: Agenda item 20.1 concerning "elite travel" was postponed because, as the board said on the record, the matter is part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
The board announced its next meetings: a special meeting on April 13 and the regular meeting on April 20. The meeting adjourned after the roll-call vote.
