Erie board hears final-phase update on five-year strategic plan; public rollout targeted for April

The Board of Directors of the School District of the City of Erie was briefed Wednesday on the final phase of the district’s five-year strategic plan, including an adjusted timeline that pushes formal board consideration to early April to allow participation by the K12 Coalition.
Miss Gatewood, who led the presentation, said cabinet members and subcommittees incorporated feedback from last week’s committee-of-the-whole discussion and from a wide steering committee that included district administrators, teachers, support staff and students. She said 47 high-school students and 30 middle-school students participated in student focus groups that informed the plan.
Gatewood described the extra 20 days as necessary to align goals, strategies and key performance indicators and to ensure in-person K12 Coalition participation for the final review. She said the draft will be shared with board members before it is returned for final consideration at the board’s April 8 meeting and that the administration aims to post the plan and supporting materials for public review in advance.
Board members pressed for clarity on which comments from prior meetings were incorporated and asked to see the redlined changes prior to final adoption; Gatewood said revisions were circulated to cabinet, taken to subcommittees and integrated into the draft.
United Way and other community partners who addressed the board during public comment expressed support for the planning process and urged transparent implementation and data-driven accountability.
The board did not vote on the strategic plan Wednesday; the administration said it will return the final draft for the board’s formal action on the announced timeline.
