Farragut board approves first reading of stormwater detention amendment

Mayor Ron Williams announced the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved Ordinance 26-06 on first reading Tuesday after a staff presentation and unanimous roll-call vote.
The ordinance amends Chapter 111 (Stormwater Management Control), Section 111-7, to allow developments in lower portions of town watersheds to forgo detention requirements when engineering documentation shows doing so will improve overall stormwater management because peak runoff timing from the main channel arrives after site discharge. A staff member told the board the Planning Commission unanimously supported the change in Resolution PC 26-01 and recommended approval.
The measure was presented as a technical change intended to account for hydrologic timing in downstream channels; staff said the change applies only when engineering evidence demonstrates a net benefit to stormwater performance. After brief questions from aldermen, the board voted yes on the motion to approve the ordinance on first reading by a 5-0 tally.
The ordinance will return for a future second reading and final adoption vote. The board did not detail any specific projects that would be immediately affected; staff and the planning commission will apply the revised standard when reviewing future development plans.
