Brooklyn City Board honors longtime business-office employee Sherry Gazinski and establishes memorial scholarship

At the start of the March 17 meeting the superintendent announced the February death of Sherry Gazinski, a member of the district’s business operations staff for more than five years, and read an official proclamation recognizing her service to the Brooklyn City School District.
The proclamation — which the superintendent said would be entered into the official minutes and a copy presented to Gazinski’s family — praised her professionalism, dedication and leadership in coordinating district operations and administrative support. Family members were invited to the front of the room to receive the proclamation.
The superintendent told the board more than 30 staff members donated nearly $1,400 to create a Sherry Gazinski memorial scholarship that will be available to graduating seniors for college, vocational training or other next steps. Administration said it will work with the family on scholarship focus and application criteria.
Board members offered condolences and the meeting proceeded to regular business.
