Sodus students featured in Young Writers anthologies; board applauds reading

The Sodus Central School District on Monday recognized intermediate school students whose short stories were selected for national Young Writers anthologies.
At the board meeting librarian Jill Davids told the board the district’s literacy club entered submissions to Young Writers, and seven students were chosen for the Spooky Stories volume while four students were selected for Monster Mini Tales. “We do a literacy club and part of the literacy club I work with an organization called Young Writers,” Davids said, noting the program accepts submissions nationwide.
Davids read the list of students and displayed framed publisher proofs of their pages. Students named by Davids included Adeline Gaspar, Audriana, Brillin Hannon, Connor McHugh, Evelyn, Lillian Tour, Olivia, Kira Hinkleman and Abby. Several of the students read short pieces aloud for the board and audience; the board and attendees responded with applause.
The recognition was part of a broader agenda of student presentations; Davids said the publications are a tangible outcome of the school’s literacy work and praised students for their engagement. The board celebrated the students’ work and invited other student groups to return for future meetings.
The district did not record any formal action on the publications; the segment was a recognition and presentation to the board.
