Union Pleasant showcases Global School Play and building focus at board meeting

Union Pleasant staff presented to the Hamburg Central School District board on March 12 about their building focus and a recent Global School Play event that engaged students and staff.
"We will continue to strengthen our caring school culture by embracing, refining our practices in supporting one another," the assistant principal said while introducing the building focus. Principal Molly Walsher described the Global School Play as an opportunity for student creativity and inclusion; she said the event allowed students to "create" and showcase work that might not fit a traditional classroom structure. Staff described practical supports used before and during the event (shout‑outs, staff recognition walls, and planning to include students who need calmer spaces).
Two fifth-grade students who served as pledge assistants described the day in plain terms: "Our play was successful because it gave us a little break in the middle of the week. It was great to be able to hang out and talk with our friends," they told the board.
Later in the meeting, Sean Failen of Turner Construction provided a brief progress update on phase four of the district's capital project (scaffolding and access work at the campus) and answered board questions about contractor activity during the school day and the funding source for sensory-room equipment (PTSA to procure much of the furnishings and specialized items).
Dr. Mike Cap and a colleague from the regional BOCES described the cooperative services BOCES provides—administrative back-office support, instructional programs, and a regional CTE footprint that serves multiple districts. They also outlined a regionalization plan that will focus on graduation measures, chronic absenteeism, social-emotional learning and a transportation analysis aimed at improving equity and access across the region.
Board members praised the Union Pleasant staff and students for the presentation and discussed potential site visits to regional CTE facilities.
The presentation was followed by routine business and public comments.
