At its March 16 meeting, the Bogota Board of Education heard a report from student representative Himea Vargas detailing arts, cultural and extracurricular accomplishments at Bogota High School, and Superintendent Damen Kennedy announced the district passed its QAC review and outlined calendar adjustments tied to redistricting.
"This month at Bogota High School has been filled with achievement, creativity, and meaningful learning experiences across all grade levels," Himea Vargas said, describing Black History Month activities, a visit from the African American Traveling Museum and student recognition at the William Patterson University student art show.
Superintendent Damen Kennedy told the board the district's QAC review was successful: "We were recently notified that our testing scores have met the required benchmarks and we have successfully passed all other components of the review." He also confirmed no additional snow days will be needed, set the last day of school for June 24, and said redistricting has increased fifth-grade enrollment to more than 100 students, prompting two fifth-grade graduations on that day and a high-school ceremony that evening, weather permitting.
Kennedy thanked members of the finance committee (he named Mr. Miranda, Mr. Alvarez, Miss Olivo and Mr. Chavez) and business administrator Irvin Epsil for work preparing the budget. He said the board would vote that night to submit the primary budget to the county, starting the formal budget process before an April public hearing where the district will present the financial plan in greater detail.
The board did not receive public comments during the designated public-comment periods and adjourned after considering and approving the evening's routine resolutions.
