Hudsonville manager announces Brownfield appointments, DPW director resignation and grant timing for ODC project

City Manager Dodson told commissioners Feb. 10 that the city has executed an initial contract with Fishbach to help stand up a municipal Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and that the mayor’s appointments of Dave Bendert and Reese Alman to that authority were approved by the commission.
Dodson said the Fishbach team will help establish bylaws and an application process for developers seeking brownfield incentives. The commission approved the mayor’s appointments by voice vote; terms were described as to be determined and the authority is expected to meet infrequently.
Dodson also announced the resignation of DPW Director Bob Miller, who served about eight years with the city; he said staff are reviewing and revising the DPW job description, will engage DPW operations staff in the hiring process, and expect to schedule a work session to discuss next steps and commission involvement in the hire.
On grants and capital projects, Dodson explained that a Michigan Department of Natural Resources trust fund grant was recommended by the MDNR board but must be included in the state fiscal office’s budget process before funds become usable (expected in October). That timing creates a potential gap with ARPA funds previously allocated to the ODC nature-center project; the ODC and Hudsonville Public Schools are discussing partnerships and a memorandum of understanding to help close any funding or timing gaps.
Staff also gave a brief status update on downtown development work including Terra Square tenant negotiations, a 'chip shot' list of grant-ready projects, and upcoming Match on Main grant opportunities for small placemaking projects.
