After safety visit, Ogilvie board explores county-based remote site and emergency options

Administration recommended steps to make interior doors quickly lockable and noted challenges where teachers must exit a room to reach a keyed lock. The safety report, authored by Dustin Vincent, suggested practical fixes and prompted discussion about remote evacuation sites if the district’s usual church site becomes unavailable. Trustees and staff discussed using the bus garage as a heated staging area, loading buses to move students to a county-based remote site, and coordinating with first responders to identify triage and hospital locations used by neighboring districts.
Administrators said they will continue exploring a county-based option to reduce exposure on shoulder or minimally maintained roads in severe winter weather. The board also noted an upcoming statewide tornado drill on April 16 at 1:45 p.m. and encouraged families to practice drills at home.
