Board approves Pathways to Success pilot to expand work-based learning in four schools

The board unanimously approved acceptance of a Pathways to Prosperity grant pilot intended to replace dwindling Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) funding for a summer and school-year work-based learning pilot.
Lindsey Goetz, principal at Vigo Virtual Success Academy, said the initiative will provide postsecondary and employability supports for students who face barriers to traditional pathways. "By expanding our post-secondary and employability skills for our kids, we're adding a vital tool to their toolbox that some of them don't have," Goetz said.
Greg Lee, executive director of WorkOne Western Indiana, explained the pilot reuses remaining JAG-era funds to support programs in four schools and said the pilot will allocate up to $20,000 per school to fund staffing and work-based learning components this summer and into the school year.
A board member moved to accept the grant; another seconded. Board members voted by voice: "Aye." Hearing no opposition, the chair stated the motion passed.
There were no roll-call tallies recorded in the meeting transcript; presenters said they would implement the pilot and return with progress updates and data on student outcomes.
The approval allows the district to deploy the pilot this summer and to consider expanding the model in future years if funding or legislative support returns for similar statewide programs.
