Board hears details of summer school program, staffing and facility projects

Staff outlined the summer school schedule (May 26 start, Mon–Thu 8:30–11:30 a.m.), targeted instruction for students at risk of retention, progress measures, and a district summer staffing plan with a central oversight role for 'Duke' and project work across three buildings.
Mrs. McDonald provided a detailed update on the summer school program, which she will oversee. Sessions are scheduled to begin May 26 and run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.; breakfast and a snack will be provided. The program will offer intensive ELA and math instruction for students who have not met curriculum standards or who are candidates for retention. Invitations to participate will be sent by April 15, and progress will be measured with pre‑ and post‑assessments.
On staffing, the district plans a specialized summer team assigned to Kimes, Centennial and North Lawn with one person working with 'Duke' at the district level on project oversight. Dr. Allstadt said the district will post positions internally for a week before opening externally and that staff will focus on both facility improvements and project‑based work rather than only routine cleaning.
The board asked clarifying questions about whether summer school completion affects retention decisions; staff said students who attend and complete required work may be advanced at administrative discretion.
