Vermilion Local board approves February financial report, annual tax resolution and multi-item consent agenda

The Vermilion Local Board of Education approved the district's February financial report, adopted the annual tax resolution and passed a multi-item consent agenda during its March 9 regular meeting at Vermilion High School.

Justin, the district treasurer, presented the February financial report (Attachment A) and said, "Through the month of February, the district received $16.3 million in general fund revenue compared to 19.1 this time last year," noting timing differences for advances and county settlements affected year-to-year comparisons. He reported total receipts of about $18 million through February, food service revenue of $541,000 and athletics receipts of $126,000. The treasurer also reported general fund cash of $7.4 million, down from $17.4 million at the same point last year, and explained the difference reflected a prior-year transfer to the capital projects fund and timing of tax receipts.

Board members moved and seconded approval of the financial report. A roll call was taken and board members recorded affirmative votes.

The board then considered the annual tax resolution — the amounts and rates for tax year 2025 to be collected in 2026 (Attachment B). The treasurer described the county auditor's role in the process and said he had checked the math. The board voted to approve the tax resolution by roll call.

The consent agenda, presented by the superintendent and treasurer, included approval of the minutes from the Feb. 9 and Feb. 23 meetings; authorization for FFA to attend the Ohio FFA convention April 30–May 1, 2026; a consulting contract with Life Out Loud LLC (Feb. 22–May 28, 2026); an independent contractor agreement with Jennifer Global to provide speech-language pathology services at Vermilion Elementary and Vermilion High School at $60 per hour, not to exceed 34 hours per week; several resignations and retirements; and a number of one-year contracts and employment actions. No items were removed from the consent agenda, and the board approved it by roll call.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved a one-year additional duties contract for Jessica Benson for the 2025–26 school year (overnight chaperone). That motion was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.

The board announced upcoming regular meetings in the Vermilion High School Commons at 6 p.m. on April 13, May 11 and June 8, 2026. The meeting adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
