The Liberty Public Schools board heard a series of recognitions during an "Honoring Excellence" portion of the meeting that celebrated student athletic and arts accomplishments and several staff awards.
Administrators recognized the Liberty Sapphires dance team as 2026 state champions and noted a cumulative team GPA of 3.896; the Sapphires have won 15 state championships in 17 years, the superintendent said. Liberty North produced two individual state dance champions, and Liberty High School wrestling programs earned state titles with deep team finishes. Coaches and student names were listed as part of the recognition roll call.
Staff honors included awards for a middle‑school counselor (Greater Kansas City Middle School Counselor of the Year) and a new‑principal award (Greater Kansas City Exemplary New Principal of the Year). The board also accepted tokens of appreciation from district buildings in recognition of board appreciation month.
Superintendent Dr. Tucker and staff thanked board members and congratulated students and coaches; no formal board action was required for the recognitions.
