Board hears transition-plan update, assistant-principal search and early-childhood grant opportunity

Administrators updated the board on district transition planning related to budget reductions, laid out an assistant-principal hiring timeline and described a multi-district Y2K grant opportunity focused on birth-to-kindergarten family engagement.

An administrator said teams comprised of district, building and grade-level staff are working through detailed transition tasks (moves, cleaning, painting, boxing) while continuing day-to-day instruction. The board thanked staff and community contributors for their input.

The board was told there is an open assistant principal position for the intermediate school (grades 3'06); interviews begin the following day with a five-person panel that includes building principals, teachers and an administrator. Finalists will be brought back for an additional round next week.

A separate update from 'Jen' described a Y2K grant opportunity that would include Madison and nearby districts (Perry, Haynesville and Fairport Harbor) to focus on building early-learning skills and family engagement, with curriculum and in-home supports; the district expects to meet, plan and roll out elements of the grant in the fall if funded.

The board also approved routine personnel items (resignations, substitute assignments and placement changes) and consent calendar items including a preventative-maintenance contract for kitchen equipment and approval of a volunteer nurse for an upcoming Washington, D.C. trip. The board then voted to enter executive session to discuss personnel matters.
