At the March 23 work session, the Shenandoah County School Board voted to approve the personnel list as presented; the motion was moved, seconded and passed by voice vote (five to nothing).
Staff briefed the board on high-school English-language arts instructional materials adoption. Presenters said the state requires school divisions to adopt high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) K–12; because state-approved history adoption lists are not yet available, the division advanced high-school English materials. Staff noted teachers piloted materials and generally preferred print editions.
The board also discussed the Southwest Food Excellence contract renewal; staff said this is the last renewal allowed under the original RFP and that the division plans to issue a full RFP this fall. Board members asked about portion sizes (stated as set by USDA) and audit timing; staff said Virginia Department of Education audits occur periodically (roughly every five years) and the district passed recent audits at sampled schools.
No other formal actions were taken at the work session beyond the personnel vote and standard adjournment.
