Board approves consent agenda, accepts donations and schedules March 26 budget hearing

Chair Ralph Fallon led the Westmoreland County School Board through routine business, including certification of a prior closed session, approval of the consent agenda and acceptance of donations to multiple school programs.

Early in the meeting the board considered a motion to certify that its closed session complied with the statutory exception cited in the meeting motion; Dr. Daniel Wallace moved to certify and the motion passed on a recorded roll-call vote with each named member and the chair voting in the affirmative.

The consent agenda — which included minutes of recent sessions, division bills and school nutrition bills — was moved and seconded, and the board approved it by recorded assent from each member and the chair.

Miss Rice itemized donations across the division, including a $600 set of gifts from Dr. Cheryl Davis and the Chesapeake Corral for music programs, Crayola art supplies valued at $1,000, several gift cards for Black History Month contests, donated drone equipment and monetary support for SkillsUSA and other student competitions. The board moved to approve the donations as presented and the motion passed by voice assent.

The board also set a special called meeting for a public budget hearing at 5:00 p.m. on March 26 and scheduled upcoming work sessions and an April executive closed session. The meeting adjourned after a motion and second.

No contested votes or substantive policy actions were taken at the meeting; the board handled routine approval items and scheduling and will take up policy and regulatory actions at future meetings.
