During the public-comment portion of the board meeting, parent and booster-club vice president Tasha Bundy invited board members to an April 25 booster auction fundraiser and urged the district to support the newly formed girls wrestling team with a dedicated head coach.
"We're trying to bring back the sports loving, supportive Jefferson that there used to be," Bundy said, noting the auction theme "Restore the Roar" and asking board members to attend. She corrected an earlier date verbalization and confirmed the event is April 25.
Bundy then spoke as a parent and volunteer about girls wrestling: this was the first year the school was able to field a full girls team (seven to eight participants) and the schedule sometimes requires girls to travel separately from boys to find girls-only matches. She asked the district to consider including a head coach for the girls team in the athletics budget so the program can grow and compete consistently.
"We keep getting more and more girls... they need a coach for that because generally they happen on the same day [as boys meets]," Bundy said, urging athletic and budget staff to consider the needs when preparing next year's budget.
Board members thanked her for volunteering and said the budget process includes departmental requests that are later reviewed by the board and budget committee.
