The Coventry Local Board of Education approved multiple superintendent-recommended personnel actions and service contracts during its regular meeting.
Superintendent Mr. Fist presented certified personnel recommendations that included hiring one‑year limited contract teachers (introduced on the record as Miss Benson, Miss Perkins and Miss Shannon), a long‑term substitute assignment at Coventry Elementary, supplemental coaching contracts and parental/FMLA leave approvals for several employees. The board moved and approved the certified personnel package on a roll-call vote.
The board then approved classified personnel items: temporary summer clerical and seasonal hires, acceptance of retirements and resignations (including a retirement effective June 30, 2026), and a custodial hire. The superintendent noted hires and resignations are contingent on receipt of required background checks and drug screening.
On other business, the board approved a contract with LLA Therapy to provide Extended School Year (ESY) services (program sometimes referred to in materials as "Stars and Stripes"). The contract terms described at the meeting were $43 per week per student for up to six weeks; one‑to‑one support, if required, carries an additional $25 per week. The ESY period cited in the presentation is June 16–Aug. 6, 2026; the superintendent explained ESY is for students whose IEP team determines they would suffer substantial loss in achievement over the summer.
The board also approved a contract with the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio for Capstone Academy to serve a student placed in a residential setting, and a service-plan agreement with Summit Educational Service Center to provide special-education staff and behavioral supports in district buildings. The board approved deletion of obsolete inventory (including tablets, a Chromebook and CHS band uniforms) and placed the February 2026 financial report on file; a workers-compensation retrospective rating program was approved for the 2027 plan year.
Motions on personnel and contract approvals carried on roll call. The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
