Board accepts multiple retirements, approves consent agenda and schedules retiree recognition

The Valley Stream 24 Union Free School District Board of Education accepted multiple irrevocable letters of resignation for the purpose of retirement and approved routine consent and finance items during its regular meeting.

A board member moved, a second was recorded and the board approved by voice vote the minutes from Feb. 25 and March 11, 2026. The board then approved several personnel items by motion, accepting irrevocable letters of resignation for the purpose of retirement for Tony Herwig, classroom teacher, dated March 6, 2026, effective close of business June 30, 2026; Margaret Autton, classroom teacher, dated March 13, 2026, effective close of business June 30, 2026; Maria Evangelista C, classroom teacher, dated March 10, 2026, effective close of business June 30, 2026; and Lette Lucifer, classroom teacher, dated March 17, 2026, effective April 23, 2026. Each resignation was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote as read into the record.

The board also moved items A7 through A14 on consent and approved the B-series finance items (B1 and B2) and C1 as listed by voice vote. A motion to adopt policy item D1 was moved and approved later in the agenda. No roll-call tallies or named votes were recorded in the transcript; voice votes were captured as "all in favor?" with affirmative responses.

A board member announced that retirees will be honored at the June meeting. "We will be honoring our retirees in June," a board member stated, and the board adjourned shortly after; refreshments were available following the meeting.

The meeting proceeded without contested votes or recorded dissents on the items covered.
