The Jordan Public School District board unanimously approved a cost-sharing agreement on March 9 with the City of Jordan to construct a new parking lot adjacent to school property intended to ease parking congestion on Hope Avenue during youth and community events.
District staff explained the lot would add roughly 67 stalls and be constructed in tandem with the city’s Hope Avenue road project, which reduces bid and construction costs when paired with an existing public works contract. As part of the agreement the district would retain ownership of the lot.
Administrators described two primary funding options: a long-term assessment that would spread the district’s share over time or the application of restricted construction-related funds remaining from the district’s recent projects. They noted the project would be structured so it would not affect the district’s staffing budget.
Board members said the additional parking will improve safety and accessibility for families and visitors, including those with mobility needs, and discussed coordination with community education groups that use fields near Hope Avenue. The motion to approve the agreement passed by roll-call vote with all members voting yes.
What’s next: administration will coordinate final design, easement details and funding method with the city and return to the board if any budgetary changes are required.
