Alice council adopts multiple public-safety grant resolutions for police overtime and equipment

The Alice City Council voted on March 17 to adopt six resolutions authorizing grant applications or grant revisions for the Alice Police Department covering overtime, equipment and programmatic support.

Staff summarized the items: an additional $570,968 for an existing grant (6.4); $45,000 for Jim Wells Operation Stone Garden overtime (6.5); $40,000 for Project Safe Neighborhoods FY27 (6.6); $63,000 for the Violence Against Women program for FY27 (6.7) with a stated 30% cash match requirement; $64,000 for bullet‑resistant components for law‑enforcement vehicles (6.8); and $53,000 for enhancing digital forensics to support border crisis response and counterterrorism-related efforts (6.9). A staff presenter noted that some of these are renewals or continuations of existing grants for which the department has previously received funding.

Each resolution was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the public transcript. Council discussion on these items was brief and focused on program descriptions and funding amounts.
