Construction progresses on Radio Road CTE facility; main slabs poured, welding booths next

Austin Conrad, vice president of construction and project manager with FCI Construction, updated the board on the Radio Road Career and Technical Education facility under construction on Radio Road.
Conrad said crews poured new main slabs after finding the original slab substandard, and that wood framing is up in much of the building. He described rough-ins for welding booths — including power conduits and exhaust ducts — and said masonry block walls and conference-room framing are in progress. "The past month... this month is really starting to see the progress of things come together. We got the main slabs poured. The wood framing has started," Conrad said.
Conrad noted students and school staff were present for the slab pour and that the district's partnership with local educators provides valuable real-world learning. He said the team remains comfortable with the schedule to have classrooms available for the next school year, with some lobby finishes continuing later. The contractor invited board members to a site walkthrough (progress meetings are biweekly; the next scheduled on March 31 and walkthroughs commonly occur Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m.).
Architect Jeff Tappy and Conrad also described plans to remove an existing front entrance overhang and to grade the site and complete exterior work as weather allows. Subcontractors credited in progress remarks included Kissinger Electric, Big C and local masonry and trade partners.
The board did not vote on construction actions at the meeting; the update was delivered for oversight and informational purposes.
