The Flint School District Board committee of the whole on Wednesday moved a personnel recommendation to the full board for adoption and approved a package of facility and procurement actions, including authorizing the sale of assets from the closed Northwestern building and several repairs across district sites.
Superintendent Jones asked the committee to move resolution 1.4, the personnel recommendations, to the regular board meeting on March 18, 2026. Trustee King explained the hires and placements were needed to fill vacancies and support instruction, citing a new PE teacher at Potter Elementary, additional paraprofessionals and a full‑time guidance counselor at Southwestern. A roll call vote to move the item was recorded as: Treasurer Luna yes; Trustee King yes; Vice President McIntyre yes; President McNeel yes; Trustee Boo yes; Trustee Brotherford yes; Secretary Perkins absent. The motion passed (six yes, one absent).
The committee also authorized moving forward with the district’s plan to liquidate excess inventory from Northwestern and to make items available for community and staff bidding. After questions about inventory methods and care for memorabilia, a vendor who identified himself as Ed with Better said his team photographs and catalogs items, assigns lot numbers and posts searchable listings so buyers can bid individually or in bundles. The board approved agenda item 11.15 to authorize the disposal/auction process by roll call (six yes, zero no).
Several facilities and vendor payments were approved under unanimous or near‑unanimous roll calls, including authorizations to repair boilers at the administration building (11.16), to pay an invoice to Weinstein and Communications related to boiler work (11.17), to repair boilers at Southwestern (11.18) and to replace a valve and motor on a Southwestern boiler (11.19). The board also approved payment to Oregon Moving Systems (11.20) for flood‑related services at Northwestern; members asked staff to confirm and, where appropriate, document that these costs will be reimbursed by the district’s insurance carrier.
Board members voted to accept and implement a state grant to install filtration kits and bottle fillers (11.21). Gordian representatives who presented the proposal said the state‑set expenditure deadline requires the work to be completed by June 30, 2026. Tom Nusro of Gordian described the procurement mechanism and Fred Staxs and Vuyo Matanda answered technical and scheduling questions. The motion passed by roll call (six yes, zero no).
Meeting minutes indicate information items including the monthly check register and disbursement reports were noted, and the committee adjourned. The moved personnel item will appear on the March 18 regular board meeting agenda for final action.
